Quentin and their friends ist ein Mixed Media Installation über eine Transition. Eine Person performt ihr Geschlecht während ihrer zweiten Pubertät. Diese Porträts sind von drei Elementen geprägt: dem Erwachen, der Selbstbestimmung und dem Spiel mit der eigenen sichtbaren Identität. Sie stellen unsere aktuelle Politik der Geschlechterdarstellungen in Frage.

Die Installation besteht aus verschiedenen Medien, sowohl analogen als auch digitalen. Sie verlangt nach aktiven Betrachtern, die eingeladen sind, zu blättern und durch die Bilder zu scrollen. Eine Wirkung ist ein ständiger Wechsel von Intimität und Distanz, der auch grundsätzliche Fragen an das Medium Fotografie stellt.

Zusätzlich zu den gerahmten und ungerahmten Fotos, sind Bildern von einem privaten Garten, die durch einen Bewegungsmelder erzeugt wurden. Durch Drehen des Rades können die Bilder weitergeblättert werden. Auf einem kleinen Schreibtisch, der mit einem an einer Wand montiert, finden sie Bilder, die aufgenommen und per Telefon verschickt werden.

Zufällig Blicke, Alltagseindrücke und inszenierte Portraits überschneiden sich. Sie haben vielleicht auch ohne oder nur für die Kamera statt gefunden. Macht es einen Unterschied?

Quentin and their friends is a photographic collaboration. In this long-term project I took an intimate glance at a way of living and changing to illuminate current social themes.

Quentin and their friends is a mixed media installation about a transition. A person is performing their gender throughout their second puberty. These portraits are shaped by three elements: awakening, self-determination, and joyful play with one’s visible identity. They question our current politics of gender representations.

The installation consists of different media both analog and digital. It asks for active viewers, who are invited to page and scroll through the images. One effect is a constant change of intimacy and distance, which leads them to interrogate the medium of photography as such.

In addition to looking at framed and unframed photos, viewers can watch private images on a screen, which stem from a motion detector.  Turning the wheel, they can rotate the images. On a small desk, which is mounted to a wall, they will find pictures taken and sent by phone.

Random gazes, everyday impressions, and staged portraits are intersecting. They might have been there without or for the camera. Does it make a difference?
Quentin and their friends ist eine fotografische Zusammenarbeit. In diesem langfristigen Projekt habe ich einen intimen Blick auf eine Art zu leben und sich zu verändern geworfen.
